Obesity Weight
As we get older it seems normal to “put on a few”. A few pounds here and there may not have much impact, but adding more and more could lead to obesity weight. What is considered obese? Generally, weight is gained when a person takes in more calories than they are burning. Body mass indexes (BMI’s) are used to access healthy weight according to age, height and weight. If you are more than thirty percent of your ideal body weight, then you have reached obesity weight. Genetics play a large role in obesity as well as living in a society where fast food is almost literally on every corner. We are people busy living life, working and spending time with our families and it’s not always convenient to slave away in a kitchen for healthy meals. Some things to consider, however, are the increased risks that come with obesity. These include…
Heart disease and stroke
Diabetes
Cancer
Sleep apnea
Osteoarthritis
Gallbladder disease
There are ways to either avoid obesity weight or work at getting the weight down to a lower level. First and foremost, always consult your personal physician about any new exercise program or treatment you are considering. In most cases, a simple regimen of diet, exercise and behavior modification is all that is needed to shed unwanted and unhealthy pounds. In extreme cases, medication and surgery could be an option, but only with professional consultation.
Foods to avoid in the obesity weight battle include but are not limited to the following…
High-fat foods
Processed foods
Refined carbohydrates
Soft drinks, fruit juices, and alcohol
Doing our best to stay healthy and decrease the incidence of obesity helps not only us but our future generation as well.
