Ski Bargains Are to Be Had because of the Credit Crunch
The pound is fetching less than the Euro at Travelex airport counters, one would believe there would be a lot of great deals to be booked in skiing resorts this season as snowboarders stick back home to beat the crisis. Early numbers barely published highlight that skiing areas are 85 % full across the Christmas and New Year time period. 11 percent up on the equivalent period of time last season.
You’ll have more luck in January that currently has a 39 % reservation level. Signs of a downturn is across the important February vacation month that has 60 % bookings, 3 % lower than last year. Booking desks in the ski resorts of Flegere, Hautacam, La Mongie and Les Deux Alpes have noted heavy bookings in Dec encouraged by the good early season snows. Luz Ardiden has better inquiries compared to last year, whilst La Tania experienced a grand New Year and Christmas.
However there is strong requirement for a bigger catered chalet, 5 to 12 spaces, as skiers group-up to save. Evidence shows that DIY snowboarding trips are doing well, perhaps pointing to the fact that earnest boarders are not going to fore-go their ski holiday. Bookings from the big tour operators are down.
