Facing down Trouble
You believe you are holding the best online poker hand when the flop comes out and hits your pockets, perhaps making two pairs or a set. Naturally you bet, knowing you are favored to win. Even if called, you know this will build a bigger pot that you are likely to scoop. Everything looks good, and then trouble shows up in the form of a card that changes the board texture, making it possible for another poker online hand to beat yours. Trouble cards are ones that make three to a flush on board, offer the possibility of a straight, or even pair the board. Now there’s a real possibility your poker online hand, which was winning on the flop, is now beat.
When a trouble card appears, it often instills fear in any remaining players who did not connect with it. If you are first to bet, then go ahead and bet your strong hand. Put out a value or probe bet to get information. If called, then you could be beat, but if you are holding two pair or trips, you always have the long shot possibility of hitting a full house.
A bet may convince your opponent that the trouble card has completed your hand too. If it goes to showdown, then recognize you might be beat. In these situations, you must recognize that you are knowingly take a risk with the bet. You have to be willing to risk a loss in poker sometimes. A trouble card could be as intimidating to any other players as it is to you.
