What’s the Story with Small Wind Turbines

May 14th, 2010 at 12:50 pm (House Of Science)

Often given the nickname small wind, these turbines are designed to work on a per home basis. Given the right conditions, a residential turbine can produce all of the electricity you need and more. In fact, the generator will be hooked up to the utility grid and you can actually sell power to the utility if you produce more than you need. Now, the word turbine can be a bit intimidating. When I think of a turbine, I picture something large and loud. In the case of small wind, this is not the case. The machinery makes a bit of noisy, but nothing substantial. I have heard of is that wind is sometimes unpredictable and that there is not always enough. Keep in mind that this is not often a huge issue in most areas of the world. Wind will never run out! Also, sometimes people complain of the noise caused by windmills. To have the most success, you need to know where to get the parts you need. There are several option like going to a salvage yard, a local hardware store, or ebay. Each method is meant to save you money without sacrificing your small wind generators power output. It’s very important to get the right plans because if you try saving big yourself then you’ll just become another case of trial and error (most likely error). There is no need to go through the process again since someone has done it all for you.If we go about with a positive decision of setting up a wind turbine we next face the question of how to build a small wind turbine. Also if you are green supporter you should know how to build a small wind turbine you would definitely want one in your own backyard. This is the only way to get the most for your money. Everything else is spending unnecessary amounts. This is why wind power for homes has become widespread recently: the simple techniques for teaching regular people how to successfully save money by building their own windmills.Source: Residential Wind Turbines

Algebra – the Major Branch of Mathematics

March 18th, 2010 at 9:07 pm (Education Portal, House Of Science, Mathematics Info)

An extended research carried out to figure out the reasons behind school dropouts shows that many pupils look at algebra as the culprit. The thoroughness of knowledge of the tutor is not merely enough for pupils to understand the algebraic concepts, nor it is enough to evoke interest about the subject field. It’s the method; the subject matter is delivered to its recipient which gives a lot for developing interest in the contents.

What is Algebra?

A shortened introduction of Algebra would be a branch of mathematics which replaces letters for numbers; algebraic equation is a scale. Algebra includes real numbers, complex numbers, matrices and vectors.

The Different Arenas

Algebra in general spreads over a lot of areas. some such areas are Multiplying exponents , dividing exponents, Solving radical equations, Finding Greatest common factor or GCM, Multiplying, Adding, Subtracting fractions and many more.

If the above mentioned areas are already making you nervous, I hope that the definitions to follow will ease your anxiousness and give real insight in to the subject matter.

Exponents are just shorthand for referring multiplication of identical factors. Fractions are equally interesting and actually are used when representing numbers that describe the parts of a whole. Many such similar areas in algebra may sound scary at the beginning, but once you comprehend the simple concept behind it, you will be delighted by its purpose. To put down a few more items – Mixed numbers, Quadratic formula, Graphing linear inequalities, solving compound in equalities, Factoring binomials, and Factoring polynomials; are all algebraic expressions.

Although you may find it confounding to comprehend mixed numbers, but it will really interest you to note that they are none other than a form of fractions. Similarly, graphing linear equalities may be self explanatory and there are many other similar algebraic expressions that may sound complex but are extremely interesting to work with.

Finding a Private Teacher

If you are curious in understanding the domain of algebraic expressions yet do not have a private teacher to assist you in the operation, leave your worries behind since online tutorials will come for your rescue. These lessons stress the practicalities rather than the technicalities, demonstrating dependable techniques. The algebra solver software packages can guide you stepwise in resolving your maths sums and it can also provide explanations of all steps.

Means to Power – Wind Power

February 18th, 2010 at 2:24 pm (House Of Science)

Using it is also inexpensive, so if you’ve got the means to power your home with it, wind power will save you tons of money. Building your own homemade wind turbine is your first step in harnessing the incredible benefits of wind. Having a wind turbine will actually save you thousands of dollars in electricity bills each year. Building your own turbine usually costs less than $200, and you only need to make the investment to build it once. Once youe up and running, wind will generate electrical power for your entire home, if youve set it up to do so. But a home built system could easily help you cut down your electricity bills by a few thousand dollars over the course of a year. This means your home built system should be able to pay off the initial investment involved to build your home wind turbine. Generally, wind turbine building plans make use of cheap and easy to find materials to make the various parts of the system. To make the building cost even lower, smart homeowners make use of old unused items that they can find in the garage or local scrap pile. If you are a handy person who likes major home projects, then a DIY windmill may be right for you. On the other hand, there are many good alternate energy contractors who specialize in domestic wind turbines who can help turn your project into a success – and get it completed. Specialized knowledge is definitely required, although not necessarily hard to come by. Cost is also a factor here – labor to install, either on the ground or a rooftop can easily make up 60% of the total project cost. Then again, hiring a contractor may help you avoid costly pitfalls, possibly saving money in the long run.

The Star of Bethlehem – a Jupiter-Venus Conjunction?

December 8th, 2009 at 1:58 pm (Education Portal, House Of Science, Religion On The Web)

There is speculation that the Star of Bethlehem was a planetary conjunction. But possibly no exotic planetary grouping can match that of the two most glistening planets Venus and Jupiter for the account that we seek. And if we acquire the only better-known accounting of the Star literally, as recognized in St. Matthew, then what we genuinely call for is the appearance of not hardly one, but two “stars.” The original appearance would have been verified well in advance of the Magis reaching in Bethlehem, and the other at the closing of their long journey.

In Hellenistic star divination, Jupiter was the male monarch planet and Regulus (in the constellation Leo) was the Rex star. As they went from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, the star “went before” the magi and then “stood over” the space where Jesus subsisted. In astrological interpretations, these words are said to refer to reversed motion and to placing, i.e., Jupiter looked to reverse course for a time, then terminated, and finally resumed its normal forward motion. In 3 or 2 BC, there was a series of seven junctions, including three between Jupiter and Regulus and a strikingly tight conjunction between Jupiter and Venus near Regulus on June 17, 2 BC. “The fusion of two planets would have been a uncommon and awe-inspiring event” – according to many astronomers.

Others have purported a tie-in between a double eclipse of Jupiter by the moon in 6 BC in Aries and the Star of Bethlehem, especially the second occultation on April 17. This event was quite adjacent to the sun and would have been trying to discover, even with a small telescope, which had not yet been contrived. Occultations of planets by the moon are rather frequent, but an astrologer to Roman Emperor Constantine wrote that an occultation of Jupiter in Aries was a signaling of the birth of a divine king.

“When the kingly star of Zeus, the planet Jupiter, was in the east this was the most potent time to confer kingships. Furthermore, the Sun was in Aries where it is inspired. And the Moon was in very close co-occurrence with Jupiter in Aries.”

Many SEO Blogs Fail to Grasp Real SEO Theory

November 13th, 2009 at 1:55 am (House Of Science, Marketing Parlor, The SEO Way)

If you have spent any time reading SEO blogs then you know most of them don’t have to much to say because almost everything they say has something to do with links. These blogs practice what is called “lazy SEO”, which ignores the most important principles of search engine optimization theory in favor of the least effective, least efficient way of practicing SEO: link building.

According to SEO theory, every Web site needs some links because links are the glue that binds the World Wide Web together. But because some search engines treat links as special factors in their ranking algorithms many people in the SEO community — rather than learn how to optimize for search the right way — just focus all their time and energy on acquiring links for Websites. If links were really the most important thing in SEO that would be all you need to do. But the truth is that there are many other things that are important to SEO and if you just build links you won’t maximize your potential.

The bad advice that comes out of the link building community includes some real humdingers. For example, some link building SEO blogs talk about PageRank Sculpting. They claimed for two years from 2007 through summer 2009 that they were running tests that proved PageRank Sculpting was helping Websites. The truth came out in June 2009 when Google told the SEO community to stop doing this because it was hurting a lot of sites. And yet even after Google said it had stopped the PageRank Sculpting from working over a year before, some of the link building SEOs still said that this was a good idea.

Another example of bad SEO advice is how some people who publish case studies and charts showing how much links influence search results don’t look at queries where search engine optimization has not been used to change the results. SEOs work with fewer than 1,000,000 queries but every month people search billions of times. All the search engines say that as many as 25% of all queries have never been seen before. So no one has used links to influence any of the millions of new queries. SEO link studies do not look at any of these new queries.

The best SEO advice you can find is based on solid SEO theory, which studies how search engines interact with the World Wide Web. SEO theory documents the reasons why some things work and some things don’t. By looking at the search optimization process scientifically rather than with guesswork and tricked out charts SEO theory teaches people how to improve their search results with reliable methods that won’t be undercut by the search engines.

Evolution in the Life & Death of Animals

October 26th, 2009 at 12:53 pm (Education Portal, House Of Science, Internet History Lessons)

For if every year each pair of animals or each plant produces only ten young animals or plants, and this is very far below the average, and if the adult life of these is taken at ten years, again below the average of the higher plants and animals, then, unless some of the parents die, the whole of the offspring must die off every year; or, in other words, only as many young can survive as are necessary to replace the old ones that die. Hence the deaths must always (on the average and in the long run) equal the births. This terrible yearly demise is an absolutely certain fact, and it is said to be due to the competition for existence. This competition is manifold in its nature. Individuals of the same species competition together for food, for light, for moisture; they competition also against other species having the same wants; they competition against every kind of enemy, from parasitic worms and insects up to carnivorous animals; and there is a continual competition with the forces of nature–frosts, rains, droughts, floods, and tempests.

These varied causes of destruction may be seen constantly at work by any one who looks for them. They act from the moment of birth, being more especially destructive to the young; and, as only one in ten or fifty or a thousand (according to the rate of increase of the particular species) can possibly come to the full breeding age, we feel compelled to ask ourselves: What determines the nine or the forty-nine or the nine hundred and ninety-nine, as the case may be, which die, and the one which survives? Darwin calls this process of extermination one of “natural selection”–that is, by this process nature weeds out the weak, the unhealthy, the non adapted, the imperfect in any way.

And what do we mean by non-adapted? In engineering we can think of the automobile replacing the railroad as the primary means of transportation. The maladapted animal would be one who is not as suited to surviving the current conditions. In other words, what might have been good for dinosaurs would not necessarily be good for mammals. All of this is confronted in the evolution creationism controversy debate being waged between science and the churches.

Are You an Algebra Dropout?

October 2nd, 2009 at 7:22 pm (Education Portal, House Of Science, Mathematics Info)

Algebra is one of the most primary courses pupils learn during their life. Although learning algebra is considered hard, there are a lot of pupils taking this course of study.

A lot of individuals are not even truly sure what is involved in algebra but it is not terrible as a lot of individuals think. Some of the fundamental parts of algebra include finding least common multiple, factoring difference of cubes and reducing fractions.

When mathematics is leaned by pupils, especially at college stage it is very significant for them to apply some planning and also some continuity in learning mathematical concepts from easy to hard ones. There are a lot of college mathematics courses at beginning level that are built-up around establishing a solid path for the road into higher mathematics as they enable learning the primary skills that are required.

Who offers assistance?

For helping you in mastering algebra, there is a number of computer software packages and these include programs such as algebra tutors. A tutor for algebra is also a surefire way to improving your algebra skills. The software packages are very good and will help you with all aspects of algebra including linear inequalities, graphing non-linear inequalities , subtracting complex fractions with different denominators and on master the basic and advanced topics of algebra.

If you start studying mathematics from the beginning, it is a good idea to do one of the beginning level courses as they will teach you the very fundamental principles and build on that so that you are able to get up to the more complex stage of mathematics. The beginning topics of algebra teach the students the right approach through the use of a vast number of different exercises and methods so this is a good starting point for the novice to algebra.

Why Virtual Tutors are Not Ideal?

The only problem with mathematics courses of study is that they sometimes do not follow matters in a very logical order and this particularly is the case when you are a student at high school. A lot of the students at school are really very ill-prepared for addressing algebra and they do not truly have no background knowledge in it.

Understanding Algebra

August 30th, 2009 at 5:17 pm (Education Portal, House Of Science, Mathematics Info)

Mathematics has many branches and algebra is one of the most stressed arms which studies structure, relation and quantity. Numbers, symbols, elements, and variables are all within the domain of algebra. Students are presented base concepts and methodologies of resolving equations in elementary algebra like solving complex inequalities, understanding polynomials along with factoring binomials, trinomials and polynomials as well as the determination of their roots.
Linear inequalities are the easiest to solve. Simultaneous equations with two or three variables is an extension of linear equations. As we move on further in the sequence to quadratic, bi-quadratic and cubic equations, they grow more and more complicated to solve.

The Origin of Algebra

Elementary algebra institutes the intermediate or college algebra. Apart from covering mathematical expressions, it also comprises of all kinds of equations like linear, quadratic and cubic. In algebra, all shapes such as a circle, hyperbola or parabola are interpreted by equations.
The equations can be resolved for different combinations by creating a graph. Lines are the product of graphing simple linear equations. It is quite easy to find a solution to the systems of equations when represented graphically. Two or more equations with the same number of variables are usually known as a system of equations. It can be both linear and non-linear. Systems of equations with inequalities (example; x>y) when graphed creates an area on the graph which matches the inequality condition.

Matrices are one of the most key areas of linear algebra which aids solving complex problems like the ones present in electrical networks. A matrix is a rectangular range of numbers arranged in rows and columns. The numbers in a matrix are known as entries. Various operations like addition, multiplication and decomposition can be performed on matrices thereby providing practical answers for theoretical questions.

Getting Assistance for Algebra

Algebra constitutes the spine of many other applications of maths, science and engineering. Once computer technology came in to the world of algebra, it has taken algebra to a new dimension by aid solving century old problems within a matter of few hours. Although algebra looks complex, the reality is reasonably different. There is a lot of aid and tutorials available to help you through the algebra lessons.
Internet resources like algebra solver are interactive, present algebra lesson and help you puzzle out your homework problems. If you have not understood something in the algebra course of study or sense that you have overlooked an critical mathematical concept, World Wide Web tutors can provide you that additional assistance. Algebra calculators direct you over your homework with a stepwise calculations and explanations with illustrations. You can improve your knowledge with the help of the interactive tools. You can also appraise your knowledge at the conclusion of a lesson by taking the quiz.

DNA Therapies Might Offer Superior Options for Treating Mesothelioma Compared to Radiation Therapy

July 18th, 2009 at 5:38 am (Hall Of Health, House Of Science)

Oncologists and other cancer doctors choose what type of treatment to pursue with each patient. There are many options. There exists no universal treatment course for mesothelioma sufferers. This is because of the relative rareness of the disease, the high mortality rate and low treatment success rate, and the few scientific studies to provide meaningful statistics.

The prospects for mesothelioma patients have been grim, but doctors have recently made progress. Treatments for cancer are traditionally surgery (taking out the tumor and surrounding tissue), chemotherapy (poisoning cancerous cells) and radiation (killing cancer cells with radiation) There are problems with all three. Traditional radiation therapy has not worked well with mesothelioma patients. Researchers are looking for ways of aiming radiation directly at the tumor in hopes that this will result in less damage to healthy tissue.

Surgery removes the mesothelial tissue around the tumor. This surgery is extensive and it is not clear how much the patient benefits. Most chemotherapy medication that work on other cancers typically do not work on mesothelioma, and different mixtures of these drugs have not been successful. As with radiation, research is going toward controlling the physical location of the treatment with emphasis on the pleural cavity.

The high-mortality rate for mesothelioma patients means cutting-edge techniques for cancer are tried out. These include biologic therapy such as the agent interleukin 2 and anti-angiogenesis drugs such as thalidomide. The new drug pemetrexed (brand name Alimta) has shown good results in extending life with mesotheliomas..

Before acting, oncologists review the stage of mesothelioma, position of the tumor, and age and health status of the patient. Two exotic ways of attacking mesothelioma are gene therapy and photodynamic therapy. Clinical trials using these techniques are being offered to some of those who have mesothelioma.

A Primer to the Symptoms and Diagnosis of Cancer of the Mesothelium

June 14th, 2009 at 12:56 am (Hall Of Health, House Of Science)

Malignant mesothelioma has a few major symptoms. Pleural mesotheliomas primary symptom is shortness of breath caused by pleural effusion ” the buildup of fluid in the pleura, or membrane, surrounding the lung. The next most common symptomis chest pain due to the tumor invading the chest wall. Other symptoms may include weight loss, fatigue, and night sweats

The primary symptomof patients with abdomen mesothelioma, which is centralized in the abdomen, is fluid buildup (known as ascites) in the abdomen causing abdominal swelling, abdominal pain, and bowel obstruction.

Its vital to know that these symptoms could be caused by a myriad of diseases or conditions. But if you have experienced any of these symptoms and have had asbestos exposure, you should see your doctor.

Peritoneal mesothelioma cancer is difficult to diagnose, because less serious conditions also cause similar symptoms. Typical symptoms:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest or lower back pains due to accumulated fluid in the pleura
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Hoarseness
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Coughing blood

Do not attempt self-diagnosis. One suffering from any of the above symptoms should see a doctor and remain calm. A biopsy is the primary way the condition is confirmed. A pathologist takes a sample of tissue from the region that cancer is suspected and performs an examination that will result in a very accurate diagnosis. Usually, biopsies do not hurt.

A CT scan (Computer Tomography is an option if you dont want a biopsy. This is an X-ray procedure where a scanner is moved around the body to snap cross-sectional pictures. Once in a while, a dye is ingested by the patient to help define the images. CT scans might be advantageous because of their simplistic and non-invasive nature, and they are considered an effective way of diagnosing the disease. Opinion is divided as to whether the scan is more or less cost-effective than a biopsy. If there are abnormalities, a biopsy may be needed on top of the CT scan to confirm whether or not the irregularity is a tumor, and if thats the case, if its malignant or benign. Pleural mesothelioma can also be diagnosed by testing a sample of fluid from the pleura for cancer cells.

Any of these methods may also be used to screen for mesothelioma. Patients who may think they are at risk but do not display any symptoms are typically screened, to catch the cancer early or to make sure the patient is not otherwise in danger. People who need to be screened include those with a history of asbestos exposure..
