Feeling Poker Sporty

September 17th, 2008 at 1:44 pm (Gambling Fortunes, Having Fun, World Of Games)

I love poker, and I’m glad about the widespread mainstream popularity it has gained over the last five years or so.

I’ve been playing since I was about 6, when my grandfather taught me how to play stud, and I remember during the 80’s and 90’s the only time it was on TV was at 3 a.m., when Gabe Kaplan of Welcome Back Kotter fame seemed to always be announcing.

However, now that poker has skyrocketed in popularity, I often hear many of my fellow players take umbrage when people say “why is poker on ESPN, it’s not a sport!” and try and refute the assertion. Well, I’ve got some bad new for my fellow online poker players who think poker’s a sport: it isn’t.

Poker is a game of chance and skill, and a very fun one at that, one I could play for 8-10 hours consecutively and not get bored. But it’s not a sport.

Certainly, no activity where you can eat while performing can be called a sport (and I am one of those people that eats burgers at the poker table in the casino). Also, no activity you can drink or smoke while doing, and still be able to do it at a high level, qualifies as a sport.

But really, who cares if its a sport or not? I like the fact it’s not a sport. There are no steroids or other performance enhancing drugs around, and poker players aren’t represented by greedy labor unions, any money they make is based solely on their own skill(and luck)

So, if you’re someone who gets offended when someone claims poker isn’t a sport, don’t be. It’s still one of the finest games around.

The PS3 Isn’t Just a Game Console

September 7th, 2008 at 3:04 am (House Of Hardware, Recreation, World Of Games)

While a new video game console can bring your family entertainment for many hours, picking the wrong one due to bad information can lead to serious disappointment. When you are shopping for a new game console, you may find it difficult as there are so many different options to choose from. There is misinformation everywhere, so the information you are looking for may prove difficult to find.

First off, here are some questions that you need to ask yourself and you should keep in mind while reading:

-What are the types of games that interest you?
Are you an HDTV owner, or do you intend to buy one?

Why dont we go over your financial situation so we can figure out what your budget is for it?

Do you prefer multi-player games, or single-player games?
Do you currently have any of the old game systems?

There was a period in time where one could not find a game system that cost more. Fortunately, prices are lower now than at that time. For only 400 USD (contingent upon which style you purchase)this price is more comparable. Prices change constantly so chech the latest games consoles prices online.

The PS3 is an experience, it is more than just a game console. It has the capability to be a Blu-Ray, CD, or DVD player; as well as; it can upgrade DVDs to HD. Blu-Ray is now the leading high-definition film format; thus, if you’ve got an HDTV but no HD movie player, a PS3 might be a great means of getting both your movie and your gaming needs met in just one place. If you aren’t viewing Blu-ray movies in high definition, you won’t see any better grade of the programs. That feature will not be of any use to you if you have only an old-fashioned standard-def TV.

While the PS2 controller is nearly identical to it, this unique controller utilizes a motion sensing technology known as Sisaxis. The controller, which can be tilted in six different directions, is able to sense which of the directions to which it has been tilted. The results vary from game to game based on well this has been incorporated. Doing it well means you’ll gain lots of experience, doing it wrong means you’ll be nothing more than a problem. You need to keep in mind that the Sixasis controller is missing the vibration feature. The DualShock 3 controller with vibration will not be included with the new PS3’s, even though it has been released, until June 12, 2008.

You will find a lot of the same games for Xbox 360 and PS3.
